Limitations

The wireless link between Velovision Rearview and iPhone may experience temporary interference and degraded performance in high-EMI environments such as near heavy machinery, high voltage power lines, or high-powered public Wi-Fi installations.

It is certainly possible to use Rearview as a front-facing camera. However, we do not condone using it as your primary or only means of forward vision.

Please read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for more information.

Developer-friendly

Hardware for Software People.

Velovision Rearview has an open HTTP-based API for anyone wants programmatic access to the video stream, and more. If you know basic Python, you can get started using Rearview for your own projects!

Rearview is unlike any camera you’ve ever seen. It is a fully-featured Linux-based development environment, with a well-documented REST API and SSH access. Rearview is powered by a 64-bit ARM v8 CPU, meaning you can compile right on the device. You can even SSH into it from VS Code for the most pleasant developer experience.

Jason Sohn, founder of Velovision Labs, wins K-STARTUP competition for funding to develop proof of concept computer vision AI-based cycling assistance system.

SEP - DEC

Jason Sohn served as CTO of Boreal Bikes, bringing core technologies and image processing pipelines developed within Velovision to the world of Intelligent Transport Systems research.

Boreal Bikes is a Berlin-based manufacturer of specialized e-bikes for high-resolution spatial data collection, cycling behavioral research, and AI model development.

  • Led development of Holoscene Salzburg, a sensor-rich research bike that was the centerpiece of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency’s ”Future of Mobility” program, Bike2CAV.

  • Led a joint development team at DLR (German Aerospace Center) to deliver Bobbi, a Boreal Bikes research bike with a particular focus on software-defined motor control.

  • Collaborated with the Intelligent Vehicles Lab at TU Delft to produce detailed specifications for Holoscene Delft, with a view to creating a cycling equivalent of his renowned nuScenes autonomous vehicle dataset. The proposal was a recipient of the 30,000 EUR ”Climate Action Research and Education Seed Call” award.
